e-Safety
Staying safe is a fundamental part of the DigiSmart ethos.
e-Safety is an area where many of the children we work with are already vulnerable and at risk from online dangers. DigiSmart helps to increase their awareness and understanding of why and how to stay safe online.
The programme provides specific e-Safety teaching and learning activities. Children are taught and enabled to recognise that an important part of being DigiSmart is to understand the potential risks and to have smart strategies for dealing with them.
We know, and partner schools increasingly tell us, that with Ofsted now reporting on how effectively schools are safeguarding children, DigiSmart is an opportunity for schools to evidence their work in this respect. Not only do the DigiSmart group benefit — they produce e-Safety materials that can be displayed across the school, thus promoting important online safety information and practices to other children.
Some schools also invite the DigiSmart group to present their work on e-Safety to the class and to year groups of younger children. Teachers have reported that the DigiSmart children acting as advocates has added real credibility to these learning experiences.
